Five players still hoping for a move in the January transfer window

With less than two weeks before the end of the January transfer window closes, business is set to pick up before the deadline at the end of the month.

The market has been unusually quiet thus far - bar the activity at Tottenham - but plenty of players are still looking to make a winter move.

Here are five players who have their fingers crossed for a new start in the second half of the season.

Kalvin Phillips

It's a surprise to see Phillips still at Man City halfway through the window, such is the need for the midfielder to move on. Things have just not worked out for the England man at the Etihad, and with the Euros looming at the end of the season, he'll need first-team football to secure a spot in Gareth Southgate's squad.

Armando Broja

Chelsea's Achilles heel this season has been putting the ball in the back of the net, yet it seems Broja hasn't been given ample minutes to show what he can do. The Albanian has scored twice in 17 games across all competitions, but has been mostly used as a sub for Mauricio Pochettino's men. A new home where he is firmly placed as the club's number one striker - much like his 2021-22 Souhampton loan - could be the making of him.

Aaron Ramsdale

The goalkeeper situation at Arsenal seems to be a constant topic of conversation at the Emirates, with Ramsdale firmly placed at the centre of it. Despite Mikel Arteal's rotation claims, Ramsdale looks to be second choice for the Gunners, and that's no place to be in a year where the goalie will want to be on the plane to Germany for Euro 2024.

Emile Smith-Rowe

The Gunners' number 10 seems to have lost his way since being overtaken in Arsenal's attack by the likes of Bakayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, and it feels like a fresh start would give the player a new lease of life. At 23, Smith-Rowe is still young enough to re-establish himself as a top-tier Premier League player, whether that's with a loan move or a permanent exit out of North London.

Anthony Martial

After eight years at Old Trafford time seems to be up for Martial at Manchester United. For most of his spell at United, the Frenchman has suffered both with form and fitness, so it may be the ideal time to kickstart his career with a move away from the Red Devils this month.
