Gareth Southgate drops big name from England squad and hands defender first-time call up

England manager Gareth Southgate has dropped Kalvin Phillps, while Jarred Branthwaite and Anthony Gordon have been called up for the first time for this month's friendly internationals.

Phillips moved to West Ham on loan in January to keep up his hopes of making Euro 2024 this summer. However, he has suffered from form and injury, which has resulted in him being omitted for the games against Brazil and Belgium next week.

However, there is better news for two new call-ups, with Southgate including Everton defender Branthwaite for the first time and Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon. There are also recalls for Ivan Toney - who makes his first squad since returning from his betting ban - and Liverpool's Joe Gomez.
