Former England striker compares Roy Keane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as managers

Former Leeds, Sheffield United and Sunderland striker Brian Deane believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Roy Keane could both prove successful at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland need a new manager after the dismissal of Michael Beale, and former Manchester United teammates Solskjaer and Keane are currently without a managerial job.

Solskjaer left United a couple of years ago, while Keane has been a pundit for several years now after finding a niche as an assistant manager at the Republic of Ireland, though he found some success in his first job as manager at Sunderland.

Speaking to CasinoDays, the home of live casino games , Deane thinks that both managers could offer something different to the club.

He explained: “I have played against both Ole and Roy as players and managed against Ole when I was over in Norway, and Ole has a different style to Roy clearly – you can see that with the two personalities.

“Ole has achieved a lot as a manager, and perhaps his way is different and more [likely] to listen to other people than Roy might, but it doesn’t mean that either is the right way of doing it. I think at a club like Sunderland, you need someone who is going to understand what it is like to be in match situations and I think that both of them are people that have both played and managed under high pressure situations, so I think that either one of them would be good picks.

“I come from an era where you can’t do anything without passion, and people have different ways of showing passion, but both Ole and Roy have passion in abundance and either would be a good fit for a club like Sunderland.”
