'Nothing to lose!' - Eddie Hearn issues George Kambosos warning as Richardson Hitchins talk swirls

George Kambosos will be set for a bout with IBF super lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins if he defeats Jake Wyllie, but Eddie Hearn has warned the late replacement is a dangerous threat to the former.

The Sydney-born fighter returns to his hometown for the first time since 2016 in a light welterweight encounter at the Qudos Bank Arena on Saturday, March 22 live on DAZN.

The former unified lightweight champion is at a crossroads after three losses in his last four fights, albeit against fellow title holders in Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko.

A return to his New South Wales roots and a step up to a new division represents a gamble for the star, who was originally due to face off with Daud Yordan in the ring instead.

But after the latter was forced to withdraw on medical grounds at the start of fight week, Kambosos will now face Queenslander Wyllie atop a stacked domestic bill.

Should success come here, a possible date with IBF champion Hitchins will await, yet Matchroom boss Hearn is determined to ensure nobody looks ahead of the wild card in front.

"Hitchins has agreed to that fight," he told DAZN. "We've got to do a deal with Kambosos should he be victorious on Saturday. I don't think that will be too difficult.

"It's a big fight for New York. We'd like to take it back to the Garden, where Kambosos of course defeated Teofimo Lopez. But Wyllie is coming with nothing to lose.

"He accepted this fight on a week's notice. He was training for another fight as well. It's a big opportunity for him and a dangerous test. As a fighter, you've got to be ready.

"He was deep in camp. He's a young fighter, he can really punch. Australian fighters don't often get the chance to change their life overnight. It's not the financial reward.

"If Jake Wyllie defeats George Kambosos, he's going to put himself in the line for a world championship fight, or a big fight in Australia.

"There are questions [for] Kambosos. He still owns arguably Australia's greatest-ever victory on the road. He needs to make a statement on Saturday, and it's not going to be easy."
