Garcia vs. Romero: Welterweight star set to attend NYC bout with potential future fight in mind

There will be an interested onlooker in New York City when Ryan Garcia faces Rolando "Rolly" Romero on Friday at The Ring's Fatal Fury: Times Square, available live worldwide on DAZN, as Conor Benn announced on social media that he will be ringside for the welterweight fight.

Benn is fresh off his massive fight against rival Chris Eubank Jr. last weekend, a bout that the 28-year-old moved up two weight classes for.

Over 65,000 fans packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London to see the British foes extend their decades-old family rivalry, and although Benn lost the 12-round battle, he is not wasting time dwelling on the defeat as he has already raised the possibility of a rematch against Eubank in the near future. Additionally, a move back to welterweight to face WBC champion Mario Barrios has been gaining traction as Benn maps out his future.

On Wednesday, the resurgent star threw another name into the mix as he took to social media to announce interest in a fight with Garcia before the end of 2025.

Talking to media on Tuesday ahead of his clash with Romero, Garcia addressed the possibility of facing Benn, stating: "That's a huge fight, I'm down for him to come over here and we could throw down. He had a great performance even though he lost. I see a lot of holes in his game that Chris didn't take advantage of.

"But at the end of the day, they're both warriors and they gave a hell of a show, that's one of the best fights I've seen of all time. That was crazy."

Benn then took to social media on Wednesday to respond directly to Garcia's comments.

"I’ll be ringside to watch you get the job done Saturday then god willing we get it on later this year and pack a stadium out," Benn posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The Ring Magazine reported that Benn had resumed training on Monday after seeking precautionary medical attention over the weekend and was scheduled to fly to New York City late Wednesday.
