Former NFL MVP hits out at NFL following Justin Fields trade

One of the NFL's biggest offseason stories ended last week when the Chicago Bears traded quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After several unsuccessful years in Chicago, Fields now gets a new opportunity to rebuild his career. The 25-year-old joins veteran quarterback Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh's quarterback room.

Fields' situation has led to many NFL analysts and former players criticising the Chicago Bears and the NFL.

Former NFL MVP Cam Newton entered the debate on his most recent 4th & 1 podcast.

"Justin Fields is finding out that the NFL is a business," Newton said.

"Unfortunately for Justin, it hasn't worked in his favour. It wasn't up to him to get traded. But, it was a collision course. Justin's experience in Chicago was a trainwreck."

Newton also lamented the lack of time in today's NFL, saying, "The NFL has changed. You only have two to three years to show you're good. The NFL doesn't allow players to develop anymore. They're trying to sell shirts and win games."
