Oleksandr Usyk's promoter shares fears over Tyson Fury showdown

Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, is still not convinced that the Ukrainian's highly anticipated fight with Tyson Fury will take place on May 18.

The two heavyweights were due to meet in February, but the fight was pushed to later this year after Fury suffered a cut whilst sparring that required stitches and ruled him out of the bout.

They are now scheduled to meet in Saudi Arabia this May, with Turki Alalshikh threatening Fury with a £10 million penalty if he pulls out of the fight once again.

Despite the warning, Krassyuk told WBN he still has doubts about whether Fury will be ready to step in the ring with Usyk.

“Theoretically, the rematch should happen before the end of 2024," Krassyuk said.

"However, we all know that Tyson is not the world’s best rematch-er. And after he loses to Usyk in the first bout, you cannot predict his behaviour at all.

“I say this, but I have no guarantee that the first fight ever takes place. The man has withdrawn four times in a row already. We have even decided to stop all the jokes and criticisms towards Luke to support his confidence. So if there is anything else we can do to help him get in the ring with Usyk, we are ready to do that.”
