Wes Brown tells Manchester United to sign player who can ‘go to the very top’

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown thinks that Jarrad Branthwaite could be a huge improvement for the side’s defence.

United have a habit of making poor defensive errors, and have yet to settle on a regular back line under Erik ten Hag, as players struggle to maintain fitness and form.

Branthwaite has shown more consistency despite turning out for relegation-threatened Everton, and Brown suggested a transfer could be the right option for United when speaking to Instant Casino. 

He said: “My thoughts on the defensive situation is that there doesn’t seem to be a sense of stability across that entire Manchester United backline.“They’ve gone through a huge number of centre-back pairings and so many changes along the way this season, so it’s been difficult.”

Brown continued: “Believe me when I say this – your goalkeeper and your centre-backs are two of the most important positions on the pitch, so they need to get it right. When Jonny [Evans has] come in, he’s played well and shown great attitude, but he’s not going to be able to play forever – he’s coming to the end of his career and the club will obviously be looking for replacements.”Discussing the Everton player, he added: “It would be nice for the club to go and get some younger players like Branthwaite.

“You have to look at the personality of players when making these decisions and what I mean by that are players who are going to give 100% and give it their all. That’s a big contributor when you’re buying people and he seems like a motivated young player.

“Branthwaite is a really good player and done well at Everton, although you never know how players will turn out. Look at Lisandro Martinez – nobody had a lot of faith in him when he first came in, but I think he’s been really good because he has the required attitude that you need to play with at Manchester United. If Branthwaite possesses that then there’s no reason why he can’t go to the very top.”
