Billy Cosh
Position:
Quarterback
School: Arundel (Gambrills, Md.)
What: Broke the state career public school touchdown passing record. With seven TD passes before being lifted midway in the second quarter of a 75-19 rout last weekend of Glen Burnie (Md.), he is at 85.
Old Record: 80, held by two players, including current University of Florida cornerback Joe Haden while playing from 2004-06 at Friendly (Fort Washington, Md.).

Michael Dyer
Position:
Running back
School: Little Rock Christian (Little Rock, Ark.)
What: Needs 214 yards to become the state's career rushing leader. Dyer faces Camden Fairview Friday.
Record: 7,122 yards, set from 1996-98 by Vernon Hicks of Elaine.
Notable: Dyer rushed 19 times for 315 yards and four touchdowns last week in a 35-0 win over Hot Springs. Earlier, he had 340 yards against Morrilton. The four-year regular was the EA SPORTS National Sophomore of the Year in 2007.

Phillip Sims
Position:
Quarterback
School: Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Va.)
What: Broke the state record for career passing yards by throwing for 253 yards, with four touchdowns, on 10-of-14 passing in a 42-0 homecoming victory over Deep Creek (Chesapeake, Va.). He has 9,179 career yards, including 1,414 in six games this season.
Old Record: 9,152 yards, set from 2006-08 by Adam Morgan of Dinwiddie.
Notable: The 6-foot-2, 225-pound senior is a University of Alabama recruit and leads the No. 8 team in the ESPN RISE FAB 50 national rankings.

Kip Smith
Position:
Kicker
School: Legacy (Broomfield, Colo.)
What: The 24-year-old national field goal distance record might be in jeopardy this season. Smith opened the season, and observers' eyes, when he booted a 67-yarder against Mountain Range (Westminster, Colo.).
Record: 68 yards, set in 1985 by Dirk Borgonone of Reno, Nev.
Notable: Smith's 67-yarder bettered the state mark of 64 yards set in 2001. The University of Minnesota recruit has also kicked field goals of 52 and 51 yards this season but hasn't attempted a field goal in two weeks.

Austin Sumner
Position:
Quarterback
School: Brandon Valley (Brandon, S.D.)
What: Broke the state season record for completions, with 422 and counting this season.
Old Record: 404, set in 1996 by Josh Heupel (Central, Aberdeen, S.D.), who later starred at the University of Oklahoma.
Notable: With 71 career touchdown passes, Sumner also is closing in on the state record of 79 set by Nate Jacobson from St. Thomas More (Rapid City).

Jared Toney
Position:
Running Back
School: Alcoa (Tenn.)
What: With 25 touchdowns in seven games for the unbeaten Tornadoes, the senior is threatening the state record. He has three regular-season games remaining plus the playoffs for the defending state Class 2A titlist.
Record: 48, set by Kelcey Williams of Humboldt in 1995 and Ralph King of Murfreesboro Riverdale in 2000.
Notable: Earlier in the season, Toney scored six touchdowns in a 41-24 victory over Maryville, the state's winningest program the last decade.

Scotty Young
Position:
Quarterback
School: Ryan (Denton, Texas)
What: With 28 touchdown passes in six games, Young is on course to break the state standard for TD passes in a season.
Record: 67, set in 2003 by Graham Harrell of Ennis.
Notable: The 6-foot-2, 180-pound senior passed for a state-best 65 touchdowns as a first year starter in 2008. He's bound for Texas Tech.
