Mauricio Lara hopes to produce another upset on British shores on Saturday night when he takes on WBA world featherweight champion Leigh Wood at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham. 

Since announcing himself on the world stage in 2021 with this stoppage win over Josh Warrington, the Mexican has become an avoided name in the featherweight division, but he is someone Wood has been wanting to face. 

After their September bout was cancelled due to a bicep injury suffered by Wood, it was assumed the two wouldn't meet, but the Nottingham world champion put those doubts to bed and the pair will finally go head-to-head on February 18. 

Lara is once again travelling to the lion's den, but as he has proven once before, it can bring the best out of his performances and he will need just that if he wants to win his first world title.

The biggest win of Mauricio Lara's professional boxing career came during the COVID lockdown in February 2021. 

Josh Warrington had decided to vacate his IBF featherweight title in the hope of facing Xu Can in what was set to be a huge night in Leeds, and in order to stay active, he chose the relatively unknown Mexican for a fight behind closed doors at Wembley Arena. 

With one eye already on Xu Can, 'The Leeds Warrior' was looking to get past Lara with relative ease, but this mentality backfired horribly.

Lara unleashed a barrage of punches from the opening bell which proved too much for Warrington who was knocked down in rounds four and nine before the fight was stopped. 

This was a huge statement from Lara who had now announced himself as a dangerous force 126lbs and continues to be a feared name at featherweight.
